Voice Track Hypocrisy

Post by danno » Sun Jun 26, 2022 10:56 am

I Look at Job openings and often see the blogger write NO VOICE TRACKERS! Local,Local Local! i wonder how many of these PD's or GM's are running a "Syndicated" morning show or ANY Syndication on their Stations from somewhere across the country? or maybe they have "Corporate Voice Trackers" on there as well. can't speak for every Voice tracker out there But i can Do a Better daypart Tracking than MOST Live jocks on their station(if they have them) and be Local, Yes LOCAL, if that is your wish.

True there are Alot of LAME Voice trackers, and most come from WITHIN Radio groups! people who are made to VT other stations in the chain for little money in order to keep their Local on air jobs, they just don't care and it sounds like it. another reason PD's and GM do not want Trackers, they want someone IN-House to do 4 or 5 Grunt work jobs paid poverty wages, when an outside tracker will do a specific tracking job.

As a listener, VT never sounds local.
The imaging and clever breaks can make it sound legit;
until the next segment when it is transparent they are not local.

It's up to the tracker to get things like pronounciations of towns correctly, theatre names, street names, etc. It also helps to keep up on the area's news via local newspaper or webites, and to ask questions to the PD if possible. I VT several stations and work hard to be conversational and 'local'. On the other side of that is my local station that I work at where they refuse to let anyone VT. It could just be an 'if it ain't broke..." mentality with a lot of programmers.

Nobody seems to question the long list of Syndicated Morning shows coming from OUT OF TOWN, as far as i'm concerned these "Forced" Laff/Talk Fests are NOT LOCAL, not even FUNNY or interesting! Yet, there are plenty of affiliates who will put this CRAP on the air and Yet, NOT Consider a Voice tracker.
