Sometime last year when I became interested in online radio, I tried all sorts of options. Too many to recall. I would not recommend edcast since it’s long been abandoned and I’d be hesitant to download/install the necessary plugin (dsp_edcast.dll) for fear of it being incompatible with the latest Winamp at best and being malware at worst. Instead, I suggest the SHOUTcast Source DSP from Nullsoft itself (http://download.nullsoft.com/shoutcast/ ... indows.exe
). This will allow you to stream from Winamp to your SHOUTcast server using simple settings. I don’t have a SHOUTcast server handy so I’m afraid I can’t offer anything step-by-step.
But, I found that Winamp (which is itself dated although they did release latest in 2018) is much more of a personal media player with streaming as an afterthought (if that’s ok with you, then I suggest VLC from VideoLAN instead of Winamp – it’s the de facto audio/video player with streaming and a regularly-updated open source package: https://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html
). So I gave up on Winamp (and numerous others). Instead, and although it’s not free, I use Sam Broadcaster Pro (https://spacial.com/sam-broadcaster-pro/
). I bought it last year after a lengthy free trial and have zero regrets. Despite the hundreds of technical features, including the simple ability to actually be a real live DJ if you have a microphone, streaming to your SHOUTcast server is a snap.
And unless you’re dead set on SHOUTcast, I would recommend the open source/totally free version of it: Icecast (http://icecast.org/
). I found SHOUTcast self-hosting and hosted to be too confusing and convoluted and my interest in it faded quickly. Icecast, on the other hand, is simple to setup and these people know what they’re doing.
Lastly, my setup is SAM Broadcaster Pro streaming locally from my home PC to an Icecast server I run myself in the cloud (I think it runs maybe $10/mo.). It’s here http://www.sector7g.com
and has been running and receiving monitoring and “now playing” add-ons I build for over a year.
