Media Is? Why All the Grammatical Errors?

Post by rogerwimmer » Mon Jan 23, 2017 6:27 am

Doc: As you have said many times, the word “media” is plural, but there are always grammatical errors with “media” on the Internet and other places. I have seen many errors using “media” since President Trump was inaugurated. What’s up? - Anonymous

Anon: You’re correct about the misuse of “media” on the Internet and other places. I checked several websites and there are many errors in virtually all major news websites. Here are a few examples:

1. Priebus said Sunday: “The point is not the crowd. The point is the media is trying to delegitimize the presidency."
2. Mr Priebus said on Fox News Sunday that the "media from day one has been talking about de-legitimizing the election".
3. Members of Donald Trump's team continued Sunday to blast the media for its coverage of the crowd sizes at the president's inauguration.
4. How does the media deal with a President who lets no insult pass without returning one of his own?
5. It’s not so much Trump that the media doesn’t know how to cover, but a social movement that sees the media as one of its significant enemies.
6. In other words, the media is taking the Trump bait.
7. The media is ‘delegitimizing Trump,’ says White House.
8. The media is just honest men and women trying to do their jobs, NPR head of news Michael Oreskes said on CNN's "Reliable Sources."
9. President Trump to CIA: Media Is Dishonest, Crowds Were Large
10. The Media is Left Aghast and Shocked by Donald Trump’s Bizarre CIA Speech
